The black bamboo is a fast growing bamboo with arching green canes becoming black as they age. It is also one of the smallest varieties.

Height and Spread: 3 x 3 m.

Position: Full sun to partial shade

Soil: moist but well-drained soil.

RHS Award of Garden Merit

NB: Although it is a clump-forming variety, it will spread. If you would like to contain it to a smaller area, use bamboo barrier.
