Calamagrostis Karl Foerster, commonly known as Karl Foerster feather reed grass, is an impressive ornamental grass highly suitable for the Irish climate.

Height/Spread: Calamagrostis Karl Foerster typically reaches a height of 4-5 feet (120-150 centimeters) with a spread of 2-3 feet (60-90 centimeters). Its upright growth habit creates a vertical focal point in gardens and landscapes.

Position: This feather reed grass thrives in full sun to partial shade, making it an excellent choice for various garden positions in the Irish climate. It can tolerate a wide range of light conditions and adapts well to different environments.

Soil: Calamagrostis Karl Foerster prefers moist, well-draining soil. It is adaptable to a variety of soil types, including clay, loam, and sandy soils. However, it performs best in soil that is rich in organic matter and has a neutral to slightly acidic pH.

Flowering Season: Calamagrostis Karl Foerster produces feathery, upright flower spikes in late spring through summer, adding visual interest to gardens during the Irish growing season. The flowers transition from purplish-pink to golden-brown as they mature, creating a striking contrast against the deep green foliage.

Uses: This ornamental grass has various uses in the Irish climate. It can be employed as a focal point or used in mass plantings to create dramatic visual effects. Calamagrostis Karl Foerster also works well in borders, naturalistic gardens, and as a screen or windbreak. Its upright form and graceful movement in the breeze make it a captivating addition to any landscape.
