Hedera colchica dentata Variegata, commonly known as Variegated Persian Ivy, is an eye-catching evergreen climber that thrives in the Irish climate. With its attractive variegated foliage, it is a sought-after plant in Ireland.

Height/Spread: Variegated Persian Ivy can reach a height of 20-30 feet (6-9 meters) with a spread of 5-10 feet (1.5-3 meters). Its vigorous growth habit allows it to cover large areas or climb walls and fences, making it a versatile option for vertical gardening.

Position: This ivy variety prefers partially shaded to shaded positions, making it an ideal choice for gardens in Ireland. It can tolerate a wide range of light conditions, including full shade, but it thrives in areas with filtered sunlight and protection from intense afternoon sun.

Soil: Variegated Persian Ivy adapts well to different soil types and is relatively unfussy in terms of soil requirements. It can grow in both acidic and alkaline soils, but it prefers moist, well-draining soil that retains some moisture but doesn't become waterlogged.

Flowering Season: While Variegated Persian Ivy does produce small clusters of yellow-green flowers, they are not particularly showy. The main attraction of this plant is its foliage, with its large, heart-shaped leaves that are variegated with shades of green, cream, and white. These leaves provide year-round visual interest.

Uses: Variegated Persian Ivy is a versatile plant that can be used in various ways in the Irish climate. It is commonly used as a climber to cover walls, fences, and trellises, adding a touch of greenery and texture to vertical surfaces. It also works well as a ground cover, providing excellent coverage for shaded areas where other plants may struggle to thrive. Additionally, it can be used in containers or hanging baskets, creating a cascading effect.
